Port of Subs, a sandwich franchise that has operated for almost 50 years on the West Coast, is expanding in Minnesota. It already has a local partner who plans a dozen Twin Cities locations, but the company has bigger plans.

The Nevada-based chain announced Tuesday that the first location is expected to open within the next six months from Twin Cities regional developer Pat Mancuso.

Port’s agreement with Mancuso includes opening at least 12 more locations in the next 18 months in the seven-county metro area, primarily in Minneapolis and St. Paul. He will work alongside his daughter, Ashley Mancuso, who is serving as a partner and vice president of regional development operations. He'll also seek additional franchisees who could open a total of 60 locations.

Port of Subs President Healey Mendicino said in a statement that the pair are “fantastic partners” to make Port of Subs a household name in the Twin Cities.

“Not only are they experienced business owners and operators, but they are passionate about helping other entrepreneurs reach new heights in their careers, which is what we look for in our regional development operators,” Mendicino said.

Mancuso’s business background has included franchise ownership as president and CEO of Woodbury-based Paradigm Real Estate Group Inc., the Twin Cities' first Keller Williams Real Estate franchise. Mancuso was also a regional director for the brand, working closely with entrepreneurs interested in launching their franchises. Mancuso still works at Keller Williams Realty as an instructor, according to his LinkedIn page.

Port of Subs was founded in 1972 as a neighborhood sandwich shop in Sparks, Nevada by two brothers. It has since grown to operate over 130 locations in California, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

To become a franchisee, the minimum financial requirement includes a $250,000 net worth with $100,000 in liquid assets. On average, Port of Subs restaurants require an investment range from $328,000 to $543,225, according to its website.
